چکیده

Following complete pancreatectomy, chicks exhibit an excessive hypercholesterolemia wshen fed a diet containing cholesterol plus cottonseed oil. This inordinate hypercholesterolemia is accompanied by intensified atherogenesis, compared with unoperated controls on the same diet. Dietary neutral fat is essential for these excessive cholesterolemic and atherogenic responses. The possible significance of these findings for the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis in diabetic man is discussed.

Effects of cortisone, hydrocortisone and corticotropin on lipemia, glycemia and atherogenesis in cholesterol-fed chicks.

HUMAN beings with hyperadrenocorticism (e.g. Cushing's syndrome) frequently develop premature, severe atherosclerosis.7' 8 This fact assumes new importance at the present time, when chronic hyperadrenocortical states are being artificially induced on a large scale for therapeutic purposes. The widespread utilization of corticotropin (ACTH) and adrenal steroids in clinical medicine compels a tho...

Effect of Ubiquinol-10 on the Affinity of LDL to Its Receptor: A Model for Prevention of Atherogenesis

The affinity of low density lipoprotein(LDL) to its receptor is very important, because most of LDL-uptake pathway is done by the LDL receptor and the change in size of LDL particle and the modification in its components may affect the LDL affinity for its receptor. In this study, the effects of a powerful lipid-soluble antioxidant “ubiquinol-10” have been investigated on the affinity of LDL to...

Production of Experimental Cholesterol - In - duced Atherosclerosis in Chicks with Minimal Hypercholesterolemia and Organ Lipidosis

C HRONIC cholesterol feeding leads to the development of atherosclerosis in the chick."' 2 In all our previous studies, marked hypercholesterolemia and organ lipidosis were consistent concomitants of this cholesterol-induced atheromatosis.'Human atherosclerosis frequently occurs in people with presumably normal plasma and tissue cholesterol levels. Ostensibly cholesterol metabolism is not deran...
